IR Floor Sensors for ERA-MOBIThe ERA-MOBI mobile robot platform has two Sharp GP2D15 IR distance sensors to detect the floor in front of the robot. These sensors can be used to detect drop-offs, and to prevent the robot from falling down stairs. The two sensors are placed on the underside of the top plate of the robot platform, angled downward and forward. The sensors output a "floor - no floor" binary signal. If there is a drop-off of 5 cm or greater, the sensor output indicates "no floor", and user programs can take appropriate action.
